Hospitality & Catering Level 2 Award & NVQ

21st September 2009

Flavour Gateway has launched it's CIty and Guilds Hospitality & Catering Level 2 Award and NVQ programme with a new intake of trainees. They are all very excited about their training in the Flavour Gateway and Cafe Relax kitchens.   The programme will allow the social enterprise to increase its order servicing capacity which is in great demand whilst delivering on its social output targets.

Many trainees will have the opportunity to take apprenticeship positions in the Cafe and catering service. A great bonus will be the training at Thomson Reuters offered to all trainees by Restaurant Associates. They will be partnered with a Restaurant Associates kitchen buddy who they will shadow over 8 weeks to get first hand experience in a large professional environment.

Social Enterprise Caters to International Tastes

10th March 2009

An exciting and innovative new catering enterprise called Flavour Gateway is being launched on Tuesday 10 March at the annual showcase event for local charity, City Gateway. Targeting organisations across East London with their high quality and professional catering service, Flavour Gateway’s menus will be reflecting the multi-cultural tastes of the area with dishes ranging from South Asian specialities to traditional British cuisine.

Based in Tower Hamlets, the business has been developed by the Enterprise Hub of local regeneration charity City Gateway. Whilst offering a high quality and professional service, Flavour Gateway is also a social enterprise, providing training and employment opportunities for local women. The enterprise will also be opening a community café at its premises in Poplar which includes facilities such as a range of drop-in sessions, events and ongoing courses for women living in the area.

“The launch of Flavour Gateway is an exciting development to our enterprises as it gives unemployed women the opportunity to develop skills and experience in a professional and demanding business environment. It also has the potential to make a significant financial contribution to parent charity, City Gateway” commented Yvette Elkana, Enterprise Hub Director at City Gateway.

Cooking for the Baaaad

17th February 2009

Sir Ian McKellen was entertained by the newly established Flavour Gateway Catering social enterprise when he agreed to take part in a unique event staged by City Gateway at Limehouse Youth Centre. Just as the event created a fusion of Shakespeare and Hip Hop from the artist Akala, so Flavour Gateway has created a fusion of flavours reflecting the diverse cultures that make up Tower hamlets.

Flavour Gateway offers organisations across East London an opportunity to taste the multi-cultural diversity of the area through their catering service. Their dishes are fresh and full of flavour, always including healthy options.

The business was developed by local regeneration charity City Gateway’s Enterprise Hub, and opens in March when they will cater for the City Gateway 10th anniversary showcase event at Canary Wharf’s East Winter Garden. They have already featured in the local press having been selected for seed funding in a Dragon’s Den style investment opportunity. Flavour Gateway is also a social enterprise, providing training and employment opportunities for unemployed local women, and running a community café in Poplar.
